It is believed according t the traditional texts, Romulus and his twin brother, Remus, found Rome on April 21, 753 B.C. Actually, the myth of Romulus and Remus originated nearly in the fourth century B.C., the Roman scholar Marcus Terentius Varro exactly set the date of Rome's founding, in the first century B.C.
The legend of the founding of Rome, Romulus and Remus were the sons of the daughter of King Numitor of Alba Longa., named Rhea Silvia. The city of Alba Longa was situated in the Alban Hills, considered as mythical adjacent to what would become Rome. The King was deposed by his younger brother Amulius, before the birth of Twins and Rhea was forced to become a vestal virgin so that to prevent the birth of rival claimants to the title of King. However according to the legend, Rhea was impregnated by the war god Mars, giving birth to the twins - Romulus and Remus. Amulius ordered his men to kill the infants and drowned them in the Tiber, but they survived, washing ashore, where they were fed by a she-wolf. tUltimately, the twins were found by the shepherd Faustulus.
The twins were reared by Faustulus and his wife, and later became leaders of a band of young shepherd warriors. After learning about the wicked Amulius, they attacked Alba Longa, and killed him. Their grandfather was restored to the throne. Romulus and Remus then decided to found a town on the site where they had been rescued and fed as infants. Soon both of them embroiled in a petty quarrel, consequently, Remus was slain by his brother.
Romulus then found the settlement, “Rome” was named after him.
